  • To comply with Child Protection procedures the Official Nuneaton Festival of Arts application form MUST be completed and signed.
  • Competitors must send in their original work to the Section Secretary not later than Saturday March 5th 2011. Entries received after this date run the risk of being disqualified.
  • Schools may submit block entries (full fees required) to cover a selection of work, provided that the names and ages of the children whose work is finally selected to represent the school are clearly marked.
  • Please enclose a large stamped addressed envelope if the work is not being collected personally after the adjudication
  • Entries under a nom-de-plume will be accepted in the Adult Section only (Classes 633, 634, 641, 642, 643, 644, 650, 652, 653, 654) but the competitor’s real name and address must be sent to the Section Secretary in a sealed envelope. Will competitors please use one nom-de-plume only.
  • Please note that schools are responsible for the safe keeping of trophies won by pupils whose work is entered by the school.
  • Please use one side of the paper only.
  • Competitors are limited to 3 entries per class.
  • Competitors’ names will not appear in the programme.

    John Burton was a teacher for 30 years, for most of them as Head of English in a Nuneaton school. He has helped to collect and publish anthologies of children’s work and has written short stories and poetry. He has had an interest in local history and photography since childhood and has published a number of books on local history in North Warwickshire and contributed photographs to others.

    John was the founder chairman of the Bedworth Society in 1981 and is now president. Since 1998 he has been a leading member of the group running the Parsonage Project, Bedworth’s Heritage Centre, which is part of the Almshouses buildings. In recent years John became chairman of the George Eliot Fellowship. In 2007 there were celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the publication of her first work of fiction, Scenes of Clerical Life. Since then there have been the 150th anniversaries of Adam Bede and The Mill on the Floss. John has given lectures, slide shows and walking tours of local places associated with her and organised outings to other areas connected with her work.

Entrants can be of any age. Many of the works from entrants in the junior section are displayed in Nuneaton Junior library.

    The Harry Branston Award of an inscribed pen, to be awarded annually, will be given to an entrant in the Junior Section whose work shows best promise and initiative.
